FORT MILL, SC::::::::::Mrs. Mildred McManus Ray, age 81, formerly of Lancaster, died Tuesday, January 5, 2016. She was born June 3, 1934 in Lancaster, a daughter of the late John Marvin McManus and Carrie Gulledge McManus and was the wife of the late Clyde Harris Ray. Mrs. Ray was very outgoing, spirited, and fun loving. She never met a stranger. When her children and grandchildren were growing up, she was very active in their lives volunteering at school and as a Girl Scout Leader. After her children were grown, she was a devoted companion to her husband and enjoyed music and dancing. She spent most of her life at Calvary Baptist Church and after moving to Fort Mill, became a member of Grace Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Ray is survived by a son, Michael Ray and his wife, Johanna of Huntersville, NC; three daughters, Susan Ray Steele and her husband, Al of Fort Mill, Julie Ray Lamb and her husband, Bill of Rock Hill, and Michelle Ray Mathis of Fort Mill; two sisters, Marcie Sawyer and her husband, Delma and Grace Steele and her husband, Clyde both of Lancaster; eight grandchildren, Macray Steele, Allison Steele Thompson, Caroline Lamb, Catherine Lamb, Grant Mathis, Anna Mathis, Evan Ray and David Ray.

Mrs. Ray was preceded in death by four brothers, Ira McManus, Melvin McManus, Henry "Doe" McManus and Jerry McManus and three sisters, Geneva Reynolds, Eula Threatt Harris and Katie Atkins.

The Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Mrs. Ray will be 11:00 am Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Calvary Baptist Church by Rev. Jimmy Fox and Rev. Joanne Sizoo.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Friday evening, January 8, 2016 at Burgess Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster, and suggest in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association of South Carolina, 4124 Clemson Blvd., Suite L, Anderson, SC 29621 or the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060-9979.
