LANCASTER, SC ~ Ms. Mildred Louise "Aunt Louise" Hayes, age 98, passed away Sunday, September 27, 2020 at her home. She was born April 25, 1922 in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Henry Shelton Hayes and Twitty Florence Hayes. Ms. Hayes enjoyed the theater, cooking, and spending time at the beach. She volunteered at the VA hospital in her younger days and worked in State Government for over 31 years. Ms. Hayes was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Columbia, SC where she volunteered in the church office.
Ms. Hayes is survived by eight nephews, Bruce Hayes, Tommy Hayes, Edward Hayes, Larry Hayes all of Lancaster, Richard Hayes of Charlotte, NC, Bob Hayes, John Hayes both of Columbia, SC, and Jerry (Bubba) Hayes of Garden City, SC; twelve nieces, Pat Belk, Kay Gainey, Dianne Horton, Nancy Langley, Debra Rowell all of Lancaster, Brenda Bennett of Quinlan, TX, Rozanna Lawing of Charlotte, NC, Judy Corbett of Fort Mill, SC, Linda Youngblood of Hendersonville, NC, Frances Morcheski of Travelers Rest, SC, Kathy Seay, and Barbara Sheppard both of Columbia, SC; a sister-in-law, Emmy Hayes of Columbia, SC; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Ms. Hayes was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Chester Hayes, Cecil Hayes, Dillon Hayes, Gibson Hayes, John Hayes, and Bill Hayes; a sister, Bernice Baker; three nieces, Betty Willingham, Joanne Sapp, and Billie Carol Stevens; and two nephews, Alfred (Nick) Hayes and Ken Hayes.
The Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Ms. Hayes will be 3:00 pm Sunday, April 25, 2021 at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 2:30 – 3:00 pm, thirty minutes prior to the service, at Burgess Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Louise's name to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 3909 Forest Drive, Columbia, SC 29204, or Agape Care, 311 B North Main St., Lancaster, SC 29720.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the nurses of Hospice of SC for their great care and kindness for Ms. Hayes. They would also like to give a special thank you to two caregivers, Kathy Jones and Tesia Brooks, for their love and kindness shown to Ms. Hayes.
