LANCASTER, SC – Mr. Michael Joseph Ghent, age 42, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2026. Born on September 29, 1983, the son of Jeffrey “Jeff” M. Ghent and Jean Mullaney Ghent and the devoted husband of Robin Miles Ghent.

Michael was first and foremost a devoted family man. His greatest joy was being present for his family. Michael was so proud of his daughter and loved watching her succeed throughout her college career to becoming a Lander University graduate in December of 2025. Michael proudly coached his son in T-ball, baseball, and wrestling, sharing with him the same love for the game that began when Michael himself first stepped onto the field as a young T-ball player with his father. Along with his son, Michael was also very proud to watch his nephews wrestle and was the first to congratulate them when they took their final step off the mat. He cherished time spent with those he loved most, creating lasting memories on summer camping trips to North Myrtle Beach RV Park and days spent on the river or boating on Lake Wateree.

Michael had a gift for friendship and was known by many throughout the community. With his quick wit and perfectly timed one-liners, he could make anyone laugh and had a way of making every person he met feel like they were his best friend. He truly never met a stranger.

After graduating from Lancaster High School, where he played baseball, Michael attended the University of South Carolina before later earning his bachelor’s degree from Limestone University. Michael was very proud of the home he made at Haile Gold Mine for the last 11 years, especially with the coworkers that became family. A loyal Gamecock fan, he always enjoyed cheering on Carolina football. He also took great pride in his home, quietly competing with his neighbors to keep the best yard on the street.

Michael is survived by his loving wife, Robin Ghent and their two children, Gracie and Brodie; his parents, Jeff and Jean Ghent; his sister, Amy Bortzfield (Broc); his parents-in-law, Robert and Annette Miles; his brother-in-law, Robert Miles (Mandy); three nephews, Peyton, Carson, and Braydon Miles; his two fur babies, Waffles and Pearl; several loved aunts, uncles, and cousins that are like siblings to him; and many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Norman and Joanne Ghent, and Jack and Ginny Mullaney.

The Celebration of Life Service for Michael will be held at 4:00pm on Friday, March 20, 2026, at the home of Michael and Robin.

The family will receive friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Burgess Funeral Home, Lancaster, SC.
