LANCASTER, SC ~ Mr. Michael "Lum" Duncan, age 71, passed away Friday, September 3, 2021 at MUSC Lancaster.  He was born November 13, 1949 in Lancaster, a son of the late Burke Gilbert Duncan, Sr. and Iva Lee Steele Duncan.  Lum was employed with GE as a machinist and worked on jet engine parts.  He proudly served in the United States Navy.  Lum loved a challenge and enjoyed tinkering and fixing anything.  He enjoyed ACC Basketball (Duke), the beach, carpenter work, crafts, restoring and painting chairs, spending time with family, and cooking, especially lemon pound cakes.  Lum always loved helping others and he was the family's go to man when anything needed fixing.  He was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church but attended Springdell Baptist Church.

Lum is survived by his special friend, Sue West; four brothers, Burke Duncan, Jr., Mack Duncan (Hattie), Sam Duncan, and Richard Duncan; three sisters, Betty Sue Sims, Diane Sistare (Robert), and Debbie Snipes (Ken); and many nieces and nephews.

Lum was preceded in death by his wife, Cynthia West Duncan; his parents; a brother, Don Duncan; and a sister, Bobbie Jean Walters.

The Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Lum will be 11:00 am Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at Hopewell United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Candance Sloan and Rev. Donald Tillman.  Interment will follow in the church columbarium.
