LANCASTER, SC ~ Mrs. Melba Mae Flynn Blackmon, age 70, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2022. She was born July 16, 1952, in Lancaster, a daughter of the late James Buchanan Flynn and the late Nancy Bernice Kennington Flynn and was the wife of Barry Edwin Blackmon. Mrs. Blackmon enjoyed sewing, ceramic craftwork, and working with Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts when her children were younger. She loved working with Pre-K students, and the youth groups at church. She loved her family and her fur babies dearly. Mrs. Blackmon was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church where she enjoyed playing the organ and piano, singing, and worshiping.

Mrs.  Blackmon is survived by her husband of 47 years; her three children, Tonya Blackmon (Kyle Turner), Bryan Blackmon (Amber), Tyler Blackmon; her granddaughter, Morgan Blackmon; her brother, Lonnie Flynn; her sisters-in-law, Peggy Flynn, and Pam Bowers (Roger); many nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends.

Mrs. Blackmon was preceded in death by her parents, James and Bernice Flynn; her brother, Mitchell Flynn; her sister-in-law, Juanita Flynn; her nephew, Dennis Flynn; her niece, Brandy Bowers; and great niece, Madilyn DeBruhl.

The Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Blackmon will be 3:00 pm on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at Bethel United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Larry King and Rev. Dale Walters. Burial will follow at a later date at Fork Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:00pm – 3:00pm, one hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 4146 Shiloh Unity Road Lancaster SC 29720.
