LANCASTER, SC ~ Mrs. Maxine Vilas Hughes Ewing, age 92, passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at White Oak Manor Lancaster. She was born May 13, 1929, in Vassar, Michigan, a daughter of the late Anor Mason Hughes and Anna Wilma Schoerner Hughes and was the wife of the late Jacob Arthur Ewing, Jr. Mrs. Ewing enjoyed gardening, working at the Antioch Pumpkin Patch, and traveling. She loved her family and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Mrs. Ewing was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where she worked with Awana and was in the Joy Club.

Mrs. Ewing is survived by two sons, Jim Ewing (Wanda) and Mike Ewing (Donna); two daughters, Connie Horton (Jeff) and Rita Hardin (David); six grandchildren, Kristie Starnes, Jimmy Ewing (Lori), Joshua Horton, Jordan Carter, Amy Aldworth, and Kevin Kirkpatrick; ten great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and a large extended family.

Mrs. Ewing was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Ewing; twin daughters, Sharon and Karen Ewing; a granddaughter Lisa Kirkpatrick; her parents; a brother, Elton Hughes; and two sisters, Laura Carter and Agnes Clark.

The Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Ewing will be 11:00 am Friday, January 28, 2022, at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home officiated by Dr. Trent McLaughlin and Dr. Jessie Adams. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.
