Obituary

COLUMBIA, SC ~ Mrs. Maureen Baker Plyler, age 75, passed away Friday, February 14, 2025 at her daughter's home in Lexington, SC.  She was born May 21, 1949, in Lancaster, SC, a daughter of the late Julian E. Baker, Sr. and the late Agnes "Nan" Bell Baker and was the wife of Michael "Mickey" Lee Plyler, Sr. Mrs. Plyler had a special love and such a passion for dance and baton. She started instructing dance and baton in 1966 and was an instructor at Susan Connelly 's School of Dance in Lancaster, SC, for a total of 10 years and was an instructor at Dance World in Irmo, SC for 38 years, where she recently retired in 2022. She loved teaching all her dance and baton girls, but it was really special to her to be able to teach and share her love and passion with her granddaughters, Isabella and Julia. Mrs. Plyler enjoyed watching Clemson Football, The Tiger Band, and the Tiger Twirlers. She loved being outdoors, whether she was walking, admiring the scenery around her, bird watching, tending to her rose garden, or attending her grandchildren's sporting events. Mrs. Plyler was truly a family lady through and through, she loved all her family dearly and cherished each moment spent with them. She was the best wife, mother, "Marme" as her grandchildren called her, daughter, sister, and friend.

Mrs. Plyler is survived by her husband of 57 years; Mickey Plyler; her son, Mickey Plyler, Jr. (Meredith); her daughter, Anna Rawl (Chris); her grandchildren who affectionally called her Marme, Isabella Rawl (age 21), Julia Rawl (age 21), Jamison Rawl (age 14), Drake Plyler (age 6), and Ila Plyler (17 months); her brothers, David Baker (Susan), and Mark Baker (Laura); her sister, Lu Anne Ellison; and many special cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Julian and Nan Baker; and her brother, Julian E. Baker, Jr.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Plyler will be 10:00 am Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Grace Presbyterian Church officiated by Minister Marty Simmons. A private burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends for 30 minutes following the service in the church sanctuary.
