Obituary

LANCASTER, SC ::::::::::: Mrs. Matrell Connell Plyler, age 86, died Monday, December 4, 2012 at her home. She was born August 6, 1926 in Lancaster County, the daughter of the late Sidney Clyburn Connell and Elsie Jenkins Connell and was the wife of the late Lewis Dale. Plyler. Mrs. Plyler earned her Bachelors Degree and Masters of Arts of Teaching Degree from Winthrop College. She worked as an English teacher and Rambler staff advisor for 35 years at Lancaster High School. She was a member of Lancaster County Retired Educators Association where she worked on the Little School House Restoration Project and was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of OASIS. Mrs. Plyler was also a member and a former President of Alpha Delta Kappa, Psi Chapter, a teaching sorority, a member of Garden Club of SC, and a 50 year member of Eastern Star. Mrs. Plyler is survived by a son, Mark Grayson Plyler of Columbia, a daughter, Susan P. Baker and her husband Bobby of Lancaster, 2 grandchildren, Jonathan B. Baker and his wife Julie of Charleston and David C. Baker and his wife Erica of Columbia, and 3 grandchildren, Scarlet Baker, Evan Baker and Olivia Baker, and a sister-in-law, Mary Plyler. Mrs. Plyler was preceded in death by a brother, Alfred Copeland Connell. The Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Mrs. Plyler will be 11:00 am Friday, December 7, 2012 at First Baptist Church by Pastors Randy Hatcher and Roger Shubert. The Family of Mrs. Plyler will receive friends immediately following the service in the Family Life Center and at other times at the home. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials be made to Little School House at Andrew Jackson State Park, c/o Lou Collier, 1021 Westover Place, Lancaster, SC 29720 or Hospice of SC, 412 N. White Street, Lancaster, SC 29720 or First Baptist Church, PO Box 670, Lancaster, SC 29721.
