LANCASTER, SC:::::::::::::Mrs Mary Edna McManus Whitaker, age 97, of 5467 Pageland Highway died Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Springs Memorial Hospital. She was born October 17, 1913 in Lancaster County a daughter of the late John W. McManus and Melissia " Lissie" McManus McManus and was the wife of the late Evie B. Whitaker. She retired from Springs Industries and a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.Mrs. Whitaker is survived by a daughter, Sandra Whitaker Bailey and her husband Ronald B. "Bud" Bailey, 2 sons Bobby Whitaker and his wife Julia Whitaker and William E. Whitaker and his wife Martha Whitaker all of Lancaster, a brother Kelly McManus of Lancaster, 4 sisters Frankie Couch, Katie Hammond, Euree Carnes, and Azlee Ricks all of Lancaster 7 grandchildren,15 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren and 3 step - grandchildren. Mrs Whitaker was pre-ceded in death by 2 sons, Johnny Whitaker and Billy Whitaker and her siblings Lela Campbell, Roy McManus, H.T. "Toy" McManus, Inez Carnes, Ira McManus, J.W. McManus, Ray V. McManus, David McManus, Catherine Gaskins, and Roddey McManusThe Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Whitaker will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, March7, 2011 at Bethlehem Baptist Church by Rev. Reggie Hopkins and Rev. Jason Myers. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
