Mary Lou Fletcher Purser (1923-2022)

Mary Lou Fletcher Purser, 98, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 21, 2022. She was born September 22, 1923, in Mount Holly, NC to the late Turner Tyler and Lula Fletcher. She was a homemaker and a loving wife to Homer A. Purser for 65 years until he passed in 2007. Mary Lou loved Jesus Christ, her husband, and her family. She was a caring stay-at-home mother of two, a grandmother of six and great grandmother of five, and she felt her family was her greatest accomplishment. She was a devoted member of Whiting Avenue Baptist Church and Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four sisters; and three brothers. She is survived by her children, Gene Purser (Brenda) and Deborah Mertens (Fran); grandchildren, Jena Walldorf (Chad), Gabe Purser, Laney Henderson (Hudson), Jessica Mertens, Jordan Mertens (Jeremy), and JT Mertens, great grandchildren, Kate, Evie, Wills, Allan, and Jack; nieces, Patricia Khoury, Brenda Welch, Karen Rinderknecht, Joan Thompson, Dana Fletcher, and Gail Fletcher; and nephews, Jimmy Purser, and Lloyd Purser.

The Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Purser will be 11:00 am Thursday, March 10, 2022, at Evergreen Cemetery in Charlotte.
