March 22, 1926 – April 13, 2024
LANCASTER, SC ~ Mary Elizabeth Hagins Plyler, 98, passed into the loving arms of Jesus on Saturday April 13, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of Samuel Everette and Sadie Hammond Hagins. Mary was the beloved wife of 63 years to Chalmers Plyler who predeceased her in 2010. She is remembered for her good food, pretty flowers, and love for her family. Mary was a member of First United Methodist Church, Lancaster. Her many acts of kindness and caring for family, friends and neighbors will always be remembered.
She is survived by her children John Plyler (Anne), Jan Baskins, Carole Bundy (Chuck), and son-in-law John Walter Cantwell. Mary was blessed with seven grandchildren Michael Plyler (Kristin), David Baker (Sally), Paul Baker (Tonya), Laura Cantwell Streed (Josh), Walter Cantwell (Christiana), Elizabeth Ruczko (Daniel), and Kathryn Hornack (Mathew). Mary's 15 great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. Richard Hagins is her surviving brother. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Plyler Cantwell, son-in-law Larry Baskins, and great-grandson Samuel Hornack; as well as siblings Julia Hagins, Doris Cauthen, William Hagins, Cecil Hagins, Samuel Hagins, and James Hagins.
The Celebration of Life Service for Mary will be 2:00 pm Tuesday April 16, 2024 at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, at Burgess Funeral Home.
The family is grateful for the love and care provided by the staff of Agape Hospice and her caregivers Dora Lucas, Doris Easterling, and Kathy Jones.
