LANCASTER, SC ~ Mrs. Mary Odessa Whitten Freeman, age 96, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at Hospice of Union County-McWhorter House.  She was born May 21, 1924 in Newlin, TX, a daughter of the late Thomas Hampton Whitten and Mary L. West Whitten.  Mary was the beloved wife of the late Wilburn B. "Kokie" Freeman.  They were happily married for over 62 years.  Mrs. Freeman grew up on a farm in the panhandle of Texas and was the youngest of 11 children.  She was the Matriarch of her family.  Mrs. Freeman loved gardening and working in her flowers and reading her Bible.  She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Mrs. Freeman is survived by her son, Jackie Freeman (Terry) of Stanley, NC; two daughters, Linda Freeman Newton of Waxhaw, NC, and Janice G. Freeman of Lancaster, SC; four grandchildren, Tanya Rorie, Rusty Bigham, Jodie Ghent (Guy), and Jamie Fisher (Zach); eight great grandchildren, Brennan Rorie (Samantha), Savanna Rorie, Natalea Rorie, Paige Ghent, Mason Ghent, MacKenzie Fisher, Alyssa Fisher, and Ethan Fisher; and one great-great grandchild, Dawson Rorie.

Mrs. Freeman was preceded in death by her husband, Wilburn Freeman; her parents; five brothers; five sisters; and a son-in-law, Chuck Newton.

The Celebration of Life Graveside Service for Mrs. Freeman will be 1:00 pm Friday, November 20, 2020 at Forest Lawn West Memorial Park in Charlotte, NC.
