LANCASTER::::::::::: Mrs. Mary Cecil Edwards Whitley, age 68, of 675 Freemont Drive, died Thursday evening, September 4, 2008 at her home. She was born September 1, 1940 in Fairfield County, the daughter of the late L.E. Edwards and Myron Jordan Edwards and was the wife of Bryce F. Whitley, Jr. Mrs. Whitley retired from Founders Federal Credit Union as Vice President of Fort Mill Branches and had also worked in banking management for First Federal Bank and First Citizens Bank and was a member of Second Baptist Church. Mrs. Whitley was very active in the community; having been a member of National Organization of Women, Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce, Lancaster Breakfast Rotary, Lancaster Arts Council, and Downtown Merchant Association as well as serving on various boards; Legislative Chairman - SC Business and Professional Women's Association, President - SC Bankers Association Women's Division, Board of Directors - SC Bankers Association, and Treasurer - Great Falls Merchants Association.Mrs. Whitley was survived by her husband, Bryce Whitley, Jr. of the home, 4 sons, Billy Monteith and his wife Nicole of Great Falls, Frank Whitley and his wife Ingela of Waxhaw, NC, Mark Whitley of Lancaster, and Ritchie Monteith and his wife Joeli of Winnsboro, 2 daughters, Robin Cox and her husband Phil, Gina Barton and her husband Eddie both of Lancaster, and special niece, Trudy Wilson of Great Falls, a sister, Betty Gunter of Great Falls, 8 grandchildren, Meredith, Chelsey and Bradley Monteith, Skylar and Alex Barton, Jonathan, Matthew, and Andrew Cox. The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Whitley will be 2:00 pm, Sunday afternoon, September 7, 2008 at Second Baptist Church by Dr. Brian Saxon with burial to follow at Lancaster Memorial Park. The Family of Mrs. Whitley will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Saturday evening, September 6, 2008 at Hartley Funeral Home and suggest memorial contributions be made to Second Baptist Church, Impact Fund, 1426 Great Falls Hwy., Lancaster SC 29720.
