Obituary

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Fire Chief, Marvin Timmons, age 86, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2023 at McLeod Hospice House. He was born April 24, 1937 in Great Falls, SC, the son of the late William Rollin Timmons and the late Rilda Harris Timmons and was the loving husband of Christine Lillian Lambert Timmons.

Mr. Timmons served as a fireman at the City of Lancaster Fire Department and was promoted to Fire Chief where he served as Chief for 12 years. During his time as Chief, he also served as a funeral assistant for Cauthen Funeral Home. After serving as Chief, Mr. Timmons was a South Carolina State Fire Marshall for 17 years and retired in 1992. He served a total of 29 years in the Fire Service. Following retirement, he and his wife, Christine, moved to Myrtle Beach, SC where he always enjoyed vacationing. He loved sitting on the beach, eating a biscuit, talking to God, and admiring His beautiful creation. Another past time, he enjoyed his "Coffee Group" with his dear friends he met at the beach. Mr. Timmons was a member Immanuel Baptist Church in Lancaster.

Mr. Timmons was a dedicated public servant to Lancaster County and a cherished member of our community. He was a Mason with the Jackson Masonic Lodge #53 and served on the American Red Cross Board. Mr. Timmons was happiest while he served and gave back to others within the Lancaster community. Mr. Timmons was a family man and loved his family dearly. He would give everything and do anything for his wife, daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Mr. Timmons' passing leaves a large void, not only in the Fire Department, but the entire county of Lancaster and beyond, as he brought so much to the fire service. Mr. Timmons character and professionalism is something all should aspire to exhibit within public safety.

Mr. Timmons is survived by his wife of 65 years, Christine Timmons; his daughter, Cindy Rodgers and her husband, Quinton; two grandchildren, Kristen Boykin, and Devin Rodgers, and his wife, Taylor; three great-grandchildren, Gunner Rollin Deas, Kanaan Lambert Morgan, and Trace Elliot Rodgers; special family friend for over 75 years, Tally Morton, and his two children, Angela Morton, and Stan Morton who are so dear to the Timmons family; and his brotherhood of firefighters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Rilda Timmons; his four brothers, WR "Dub" Timmons, Clyde Timmons, Grady Timmons, and Vernon Timmons; special friend for 75 years, Jean Morton; and many past fellow firemen.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be 3:00 pm Sunday, October 22, 2023 at Immanuel Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Tim Anderson. Burial will follow at St. Luke United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:00pm – 3:00pm, one hour prior to the service, in the church fellowship hall.
