LANCASTER, SC – Mr. Marvin Starnes, age 77, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2026 at his home. He was born on September 8, 1948, a son of the late Arther Roy Starnes and the late Louise Sims Starnes and was the loving husband of the late Judy M. Starnes.
Marvin was a man who truly cherished the simple joys of life. He found great happiness in fishing, spending time outdoors, and piddling in his yard. One of his favorite pastimes was gathering with his friends at Jack’s Party Shop, where he enjoyed many mornings filled with breakfast, laughter, and good company.
Marvin also held a special place in his heart for his Baker Place neighborhood friends. He loved them dearly and thought so much of each one. Known affectionately as the “Baker Place Neighborhood Crime Watch,” Marvin took pride in looking out for those around him, always keeping a watchful eye and lending a helping hand whenever needed.
A true jokester, Marvin had a special gift for making others laugh and always knew how to brighten a room. He loved having a good time and brought joy to those around him, leaving behind many fond memories with all who knew and loved him.
Marvin is survived by his son, Fuzzy Starnes (Jackie); his daughter, Donna K. Starnes; five grandchildren, Brandon Starnes (Fiancée, Makynna Small), Amber Corder, Johnathan Frye, Summer Short, and Donnette Mackey; five great-grandchildren, Gavin, Austin, Nahaven, Zander, and Ansleigh; his brother, Nelson Starnes (Naida); and his sister, Grace S. Faile.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Starnes; his daughter, Tammy S. Cauthen; his parents, Arther and Louise Starnes; and four siblings, Huey Starnes, Carolyn S. Alford, Barbara Faile, and Yvonne S. Hinson.
The Celebration of Life Service for Marvin will be 2:00 pm Monday, April 6, 2026, at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Mitch Ingram.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, at Burgess Funeral Home.
