Obituary
LANCASTER, SC :::::::: Mr. Marvin "Gene" Adams, age 82, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2014 surrounded by his family. Gene was born November 8, 1931 in Lancaster County, as one of eight children to the late Robert Thomas Adams and Lula Stewart Adams and was the husband of Josie Criminger Adams. He enlisted into the United States Army where he proudly served in the Korean War as a Staff Sergeant. After serving his country and leaving the military, he worked for Springs Industries for 43 years before retiring. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as Deacon. Spare time with the family was spent fishing, gardening and family vacations. Gene also loved woodworking and playing golf where he was fortunate enough to make two holes in one on the same hole!
Mr. Adams is survived by his wife of 59 years, Josie Criminger Adams, two daughters, Joey Adams Graves and her husband David of Rock Hill and Paula Adams Patterson and her husband Gary of Columbia. He also leaves behind 17 grandchildren, Jason and Brittany Threatt, Brandi, Lexie and Adam Patterson, Marrisa Adams, Catlyan, Beth, Crystal, Michael, Hope, Jennifer, Patrick, Branson, Coop, Lena and 8 great grandchildren.
Mr. Adams was preceded in death by a son, Morris D. Adams, four brothers, Robert Adams, Thomas Adams, Ferris Adams, and Glenn Adams, and three sisters, Ethel Kennington, Viola Kennington and Mazie Love.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Adams will be 2:00 pm, Monday, May 26, 2014 at Calvary Baptist Church by Rev. Jimmy Fox. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.
The Family of Mr. Adams will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 pm Monday at the church and friends are also welcome at the home Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, Music Department, PO Box 1116, Lancaster, SC 29721.
