LANCASTER, SC:::::::::: Mr. Martin Alvis Steele, Jr., age 82, died Monday, March 2, 2015. He was born January 26, 1933 in Chesterfield County, the son of the late Martin Alvis Steele, Sr. and Geneva Snipes Steele and was the husband of Loraine Hough Steele. Mr. Steele retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service including two tours in Vietnam. He later retired from Buford Vocational School as the Masonry/Carpentry instructor. Mr. Steele was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church where he had served as Trustee and on many committees.

Mr. Steele is survived by his wife of 58 years, Loraine Hough Steele; a son, Martin A. Steele III and his wife Mikala of Lancaster, a brother, Clyde Steele and his wife Grace also of Lancaster; a sister, Judy Humphries of Lancaster; and several half-brothers and sisters.

Mr. Steele was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Diane Steele, three brothers, Frank Steele, Joe Steele and Jimmy Steele and two sisters, June Haire and Sarah Knight.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Steele will be 2:00 pm Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Hopewell United Methodist Church by Rev. David Inman. Burial with Masonic Rites and full military honors will be in the church cemetery.

The Family of Mr. Steele will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 pm Thursday in the church fellowship hall and suggest memorial contributions be made to Hopewell United Methodist Church, 3734 Heyward Hough Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.
