INDIAN LAND, SC ~ It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mark Ominsky, age 85, who died peacefully at his home on Thursday, March 18, 2026.
Born on August 24, 1940, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mark was the son of the late Joseph and Lillian Ominsky. A man of exceptional intellect, and quiet strength, he was defined by his humility, integrity, kindness, and generosity that left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Mark received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his Doctorate degree from Duke University. His professional life was marked by a distinguished 40-year career at IBM, where he served as the Lead of the Product Usability Research Department. His varied interests included collecting stamps and vintage postcards. A lifelong bridge player who achieved his life master ranking and competed both regionally and nationally. He was an avid sports fan, having season tickets for Charlotte Hornets and Carolina Panthers and always rooted for the Duke Blue Devils. Mark enjoyed the arts, pottery, and music, dancing, folk music and listening to 50’s and 60’s classics.
Above all, Mark was a devoted family man. He shared 60 beautiful years of marriage with his wife, Donna Bevacqua Ominsky. He was a proud and steady mentor to his children, a loving grandfather, and a delighted great-grandfather.
Mark is survived by his beloved wife, Donna; his children, Deborah (Jonathan) Devine of Charlotte, NC and Michael Ominsky of Ann Arbor, MI; five grandchildren, Joshua Devine (Audrey Grace), Sydney Devine, Katelyn Devine, Hattie Ominsky, and Annalie Ominsky; and his great-granddaughter, Piper. He also leaves behind his sister, Fran Markowitz (Martin), and sisters-in-law Marsha Ominsky and Rosalyn Ominsky. Mark was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Harris and Robert Ominsky.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to honor a man whose generous heart and brilliant mind touched so many.
