Obituary
LANCASTER, SC -- Marie Dixon, age 93, died on October 30, 2013, at her home in Lancaster, SC.
She was born in Bath, NC, the daughter of the late Sidney Joseph Cox and Sena Barr Cox. She graduated from Broughton High School in Raleigh, NC and attended Peace College. She was married to the late Donald Corbett Dixon for 41 years, moving to Lancaster shortly after WWII.
Marie found her true home in Lancaster and was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was active in many areas serving as President of The Women of the Church during the construction of the current sanctuary and Circle Chairman numerous times.
Marie had a beautiful smile, a wonderful sense of humor, and was known for her love of people and her passion for animal rights, reflected in the love of her dogs, Cutie and Rascal. She always made those around her feel comfortable and appreciated. A charter member of the Twentieth Century Club, she also volunteered at Springs Memorial Hospital, was an aide at Erwin Elementary, and was involved with Girl Scout Troop #1.
She is survived by her daughter Susan Goldsmith, son, Don Dixon and wife Marti, and son-in-law Ron Demonet; grandchildren, Adam Leibler and wife Jennifer, Corbett Jordan, Will Goldsmith and wife Millie, Elizabeth Goldsmith, Susanne Middleton and husband James, Bonnie Dixon, Sidney Dixon and Shane Dixon; great-grandchildren Hunter Leibler, Dixon Moss, Jaycie Middleton, Jackson McGuckin, Tere Goldsmith and one on the way.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Ann Demonet and her brother Joe Cox.
The family would like to acknowledge the unfailing support of Ann Satterwhite, Shirley Blackmon, Elizabeth Wallace, Brenda Hyatt, and the staff of Hospice of South Carolina along with countless healthcare professionals and friends. Their compassionate care allowed Marie to fulfill her dream of living her last years in her home.
A memorial service will be held on November 24, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Don and Marie Dixon Educational Scholarship, USCL, PO Box 889, Lancaster, SC 29721; The First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 990, Lancaster, SC 29721; or Hospice Care of South Carolina, 412 North White St, Lancaster, SC 29720.
