Lancaster, SC ~ Mrs. Margaret DeKany-Smith, age 62, passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2018. She was born September 6, 1956 in Kearney, NJ, the daughter of Richard Dekany, Sr. and the late Verrall Kernaghan DeKany.

Margaret was a graduate of the University of South Carolina, where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree. She was a Registered Nurse and volunteered at local non-profit agencies. Margaret loved her dogs, was an avid cook and enjoyed spending time on the water.

Margaret is survived by her father, Richard DeKany, Sr. and his wife Carol, of Hilton Head, SC; a brother, Richard DeKany, Jr.; and three sisters, Patricia DeKany, Lori DeKany-Leal, both of New Jersey, and Jo Ann DeKany of South Carolina.

Margaret was preceded in death by her mother, Verrall Kernaghan DeKany.

The family will hold a private Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. DeKany-Smith.
