LEXINGTON, SC ~ Ms. Malinda Ann Ferguson Spence, 82, born in Lancaster, South Carolina, passed away on October 22, 2026, in Lexington, SC. She leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew and loved her, but also a lifetime of joyful memories and adventures to cherish.

With her classic Southern belle charm, Linda offered warm, welcoming smiles to friends, family, and strangers alike. She loved golf, bridge, watercolors, and earlier in her life, shag dancing. Linda also served as God’s devoted and protective angel over his earthly creatures, nursing many an animal to health over the years. She radiated emotional sunshine, kindness, empathy and strength to those around her.

Linda began her career at Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative on September 29, 1975, as an administrative assistant. While working full-time and raising three children as a single mother, she put herself through college, demonstrating the determination and perseverance that would define her career. Linda was truly the founding mother of the Cooperative's Human Resources Department, bringing together employee-related responsibilities from various areas and building the foundation for the department she would eventually lead. Through her dedication, leadership, and genuine concern for others, she left a lasting impact on the Cooperative and the many employees whose lives she touched. Her remarkable career culminated in her role as Vice President of Human Resources, and she retired on February 23, 2007, after more than 31 years of service.

She is survived by her three daughters, Ellen Cirlot (Marc Cirlot), Ann Garner (David Garner), and Juanita “Nita” Spence; eight grandchildren; Kayla Garner, Michael Herbkersman, Brittany Garner, Kaitlyn Baker, Heather “Courtney” Herbkersman (William “Blake” Haasis), Bailey Garner (David Samperi), Matthew Herbkersman and Coleman Hernandez and three great-grandchildren, Ryder Herbkersman, Colson Baker and Madison Kaitlyn Baker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Talmadge and Ruby Ferguson.

A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at Westside Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at a celebration of life ceremony in the weeks following burial.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to Carolina Waterfowl Rescue.
