LANCASTER, SC / OAK ISLAND, NC ~ Ms. Lynda T. Haraway, age 80, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026. She was born on September 3, 1945, in Union County, NC, a daughter of the late Jessie Burdette Thompson and the late Edith T. Thompson.
Lynda went on to make a lasting mark on Oak Island, NC, where she worked as a dedicated realtor for over 30 years, helping people find their perfect coastal homes. Lynda loved life, a good glass of wine with friends, and above all, her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Tammy Couick Ashley (Lanny) of Monroe, NC; stepson, Doug Haraway (Sharon) of Florida; sister, Sue West of Lancaster, SC. Lynda is also survived by three grandchildren, Chris Ashley (Christina Starnes), Steven Ashley (Andrea), and Jennifer Tutterow (Tim); three great-grandchildren, Hayden Ashley, Carter Ashley, and Reagan Tutterow; special niece, Tiffany Michel (Mark); special nephew, Rick Carnes (Kelly); and an abundance of deeply cherished friends, including Bobbi and Ed Welch, Cindy Morris, Sharon and Joyce Price, Ronnie and Kim Russell, and Laurie Watts and so many more. She will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husbands, Bud Haraway of Oak Island, NC and William Frank Phillips of Lancaster, SC; her parents, Jessie Burdette Thompson and Edith T. Thompson; her dear sisters, Catherine Thompson and Fran Elmore; stepson, Bill Haraway; and niece, Destiny Rabon.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Lynda will be held at 11:00am Friday, July 24, 2026, at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Michael Taylor. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00am to 11:00am, one hour prior to the service.
Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Ashley, Steven Ashley, Hayden Ashley, Noah Rabon, Cameron Carnes, and Ronnie Russell. Honorary pallbearers will be Carter Ashley, Reese Michel, and Rick Carnes.
