LANCASTER, SC – Mr. Luther Carlyle McAteer, age 76, passed away Friday, October 4, 2024 at his home. He was born February 3, 1948, in Lancaster, SC, the son of the late Edna Pardue McAteer and the late Luther Caldwell McAteer and was the loving husband of Ivy Stevens McAteer. Mr. McAteer retired from Springs Industries as a powerhouse manager. He was an avid Clemson Tigers fan and New York Yankees fan and was a member of The Lancaster Clemson Club for over 40 years. Mr. McAteer enjoyed all sports especially golf, football, and softball. If he wasn't watching sports, you could guarantee he was watching westerns. Mr. McAteer enjoyed life and always made the best of each day and will be remembered for his infectious smile, and always telling the best stories. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church.

Mr. McAteer is survived by his loving wife of 53 years; Ivy McAteer; his sister, Barbara Catoe; and many special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Alma Neal (Hub), Janie Thomas (Frank), and Della McManus (Bill); his brother-in-law, Odell Catoe; and two nephews, Tony Neal, and Larry Thomas.

The Celebration of Life Service for Mr. McAteer will be 3:00 pm Monday, October 7, 2024, at Zion United Methodist Church officiated by Pastor John Howle and speakers, Larry Small, and Rob Wood. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Sunday, October 6, 2024 at Burgess Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, memorials may be made to Zion United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 1665 Zion Rd., Lancaster, South Carolina 29720.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Crescent Hospice in Rock Hill for all the wonderful care, love, and compassion that was given to Mr. McAteer.
