LANCASTER, SC ~ Mrs. Ellen Louise Stacks Walters, age 93, passed away peacefully at her home in Lancaster, SC on Friday, July 31, 2020 with her devoted caretaker and daughter, Ruth, by her side.
Mrs. Walters was born December 12, 1926 in Lancaster, SC. She was the eldest daughter of the late Howard Stacks, Sr., and Elizabeth Rollings Stacks. She was married to the love of her life, the late David Ray Walters. Mrs. Walters was a graduate of Buford High School. Before her retirement, she worked at Heath Springs Manufacturing 23 years and previously at Springs Industries. She and her husband enjoyed traveling anytime the opportunity arose. Mrs. Walters was a talented seamstress, and she enjoyed working in her flower garden, cooking, sewing, and reading.
Mrs. Walters loved her family, her church, gospel music, and helping others in need. She was caregiver to her mother, Elizabeth, and brother Howard Stacks, Jr. Mrs. Walters was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church for 74 years where she attended diligently and served on the church council for many years.
Mrs. Walters is survived by two daughters, Ruth Dixon (fiancé, Mick Maier) of Lancaster, and Gail Parker (Mike) of Mooresville, NC; a grandson, David Dixon (Stephanie) of York, SC; a granddaughter, Caroline Cleaveland (Chris) of Mooresville, NC; two great granddaughters, McAllister and Addison Dixon; two brothers, Dewitt Stacks of California, and Jerry Stacks of Lancaster; and a sister, Carolyn Cordle of Georgia.
Mrs. Walters was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; a great grandson, Parker James Cleaveland; her parents; three sisters, Ethel Stogner, Sue Cormier, and Joyce Daniels; and two brothers, Howard Stacks, Jr., and Ray Stacks.
The Celebration of Life Graveside Service for Mrs. Walters will be 2:00 pm Sunday, August 2, 2020 at Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery officiated by Rev. Candice Sloan.
The family will receive friends from 1:00- 2:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hopewell UMC, Cemetery Fund, 3734 Heyward Hough Rd., Lancaster, SC 29720.
