GREENWOOD, MS ~ Louise Mardette Brigman, born on November 16, 1940, in South Carolina, passed away peacefully at Golden Age Nursing Home on March 2, 2025, in Greenwood, Mississippi, at the age of 84. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Heyward Brigman of Lancaster, South Carolina.
A dedicated educator, Mardette was a retired schoolteacher who served in both the South Carolina and Mississippi public school systems, touching the lives of countless students throughout her career. In addition to her passion for teaching, she was also gifted musically and could play the piano by ear, bringing joy to those around her with her natural talent.
In her youth, Mardette was crowned Miss Lancaster, South Carolina, a testament to her grace, charm, and beauty.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Heyward Brigman, and her siblings, Ada Katherine Derrick, and George Heyward 'Sonny' Brigman Jr.
Mardette is survived by her sisters, Rebecca Remsen of Atlanta, Georgia, and Stella Marie Martin of Florence, South Carolina; her daughter Rebecca Mardette McCain Small, and her husband Charles Sidney Small Jr. of Greenwood; and her granddaughter, Airston Louise Small Moses, and her husband Wilson Baldwin Moses of Greenwood.
The family would like to thank the staff of Golden Age Nursing Home and Grace Hospice for their unwavering care, compassion, and support.
A graveside service to honor Mardette's memory will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at Lancaster Memorial Park in Lancaster, South Carolina. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of one's choice in her name.
