LANCASTER, SC ~ Mrs. Linda Jane Plyler Lucas, age 82, passed away Monday, July 28, 2025. She was born March 18, 1943, in Lancaster, SC, a daughter of the late William Plyler and Brinnie Mae Hammond Gardner and was the loving wife of James Robert Lucas.
Mrs. Lucas was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved her family and friends. She built a life centered on faith, family, and service.
A member of Crestview Baptist Church, Mrs. Lucas faithfully served her church in many roles over the years. She taught youth Sunday school, shared her musical talents by playing the organ during worship services, and cared for countless little ones in the church nursery. Her love for the children of Crestview spanned generations, and her nurturing presence left a lasting impact on many families.
Saturdays were often spent in the kitchen, where she enjoyed baking.
Being around Mrs. Lucas meant being surrounded by laughter. Her playful, silly personality made people feel at ease, and her joy was infectious.
Her legacy of love, service, and joy will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
Mrs. Lucas is survived by her husband of 66 years, Robert Lucas; three daughters, Pam Blackmon (Dale), Debbie Cole (Chuck), and Beth White (Bruce); seven grandchildren, Justin Blackmon (Jennifer), Erin Gardner (Chandler), Merridy Andrews (Tim), Allison Cole, Lucas White (Abigail), Aaron White, and Anna White; five great grandchildren, Dallas, Brooks, Avery, Lila Jane, and Cohen; brother, Darrell Plyler (Janet); two sisters, Brenda Harmon (Homer) and Frances Ann Montgomery (Joe); and sister-in-law, Mary Plyler. Mrs. Lucas was also blessed to have many special nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William Plyler and Brinnie Gardner; and two brothers, Johnny Plyler and Larry Plyler.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Lucas will be 11:00 am Saturday, August 2, 2025, at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Jesse Looney. A private burial will follow. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, one hour prior to the service, at Burgess Funeral Home.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to caregiver, Ella Howard, Visiting Angels, and Agape Care- Lancaster for their loving care and compassion.
