Mr. Lewis Dale Plyler, age 85, died Monday, September 28, 2009 at his home. He was born August 10, 1924 in Lancaster County, the son of the late John Baxter Plyler and Ada Parks Plyler and was the husband of Matrell Connell Plyler. Mr. Plyler was the owner/operator of Eastside Auto Parts for 44 years and was a Mason with the Jackson Masonic Lodge. He was a member of First Baptist Church and served our great country in the United States Marine Corp during WWII in the 6th Marine Corp Division. He was issued the expert rifleman award in basic training and was sent to Okinawa where his Marine Division fought for 90 days and later went to Guam and then China.Mr. Plyler is survived by his wife of 62 years, Matrell Connell Plyler of the home, a son, Mark Grayson Plyler of Columbia, SC, a daughter, Susan Plyler Baker and her husband Bobby of Lancaster, 2 grandchildren, Jonathan Baxter Baker and his wife Julie of Charleston and David Clyburn Baker and his wife Erica and their daughter, Scarlet Lillian Baker of Columbia, and a brother, Chalmers Plyler and his wife Mary of Lancaster.Mr. Plyler was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Gene Plyler, Drennon Plyler and Leighton Plyler and a sister, Leona Haigler.The Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Mr. Plyler will be 11:00 am Wednesday morning, September 30, 2009, at Hartley Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. David Pace. The Family of Mr. Plyler will receive friends following the service and at other times at the home, 1903 Rocky River Road, Lancaster.
