LANCASTER, SC :::::::::: Mr. Lester George "Sarge" Goins, age 76, of 2047 John Everall Road, died Friday, July 24, 2009 at his home. He was born June 15, 1933 in Fairfield County, son of the late James J. Goins and Mildred Chapman Goins and was the husband of Wrennie Bell Goins. Mr. Goins retired from the United States Army after 23 years of service. He was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War in which he earned 3 Bronze Stars. He later retired from the Lancaster County School District after 26 years of service as the ROTC instructor and the Lancaster County Transportation Supervisor. He was a Mason with the Camp Creek Masonic Lodge, served as past Post Commander of the American Legion and was a member of Zion United Methodist Church.Mr. Goins is survived by his wife of 57 years, Wrennie Bell Goins of the home, 3 sons, James F. Goins and his wife Marsha of York, SC, Russell S. Goins and his wife Rosie of Lancaster and Lester G. Goins, Jr. of Dallas, TX, 2 daughters, Phyllis Goins Chappell and her husband Chris of McConnells, SC and Lena Goins Everall and her husband Eric of Lancaster, a sister, Barbara G. Williams of Great Falls, 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Goins will be 3:00 pm, Monday afternoon, July 27, 2009 at Zion United Methodist Church by Rev. Jim Elders. Burial with full military honors will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Great Falls.The Family of Mr. Goins will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Sunday evening, July 26, 2009 at Hartley Funeral Home and suggest in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Home Care Hospice of Lancaster, 902 West Meeting Street, Lancaster, SC 29720 or Zion United Methodist Church, 1665 Zion Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.
