Obituary

LANCASTER, SC:::::::::: Mr. Amos Leon Plyler, age 88, of 3808 Thompson Road, died Friday, November 13, 2009 at Springs Memorial Hospital. He was born September 14, 1921 in Lancaster County, the son of the late Thurlow B. Plyler and Ona Funderburk Plyler and was the husband of Betty Williams Plyler. Mr. Plyler retired from Springs Industries, was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for 50 years, and served our great country in the United States Navy during World War II.Mr. Plyler is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Williams Plyler of the home, a son, Mike Plyler of Lancaster, a daughter, Elaine Plyler Shurley and her husband Rev. Dr. Lynn Shurley of Paducah, KY, and two grandchildren, Britton Michael Shurley and his wife Amelia Martens of Paducah, KY and Justin Plyler Shurley of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Mr. Plyler was preceded in death by two brothers, Hazel Plyler and Thurlow B. Plyler, Jr. and a sister, Connie Calais.The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Plyler will be 2:00 pm Sunday afternoon, November 15, 2009 at Bethlehem Baptist Church by Rev. Reggie Hopkins, Rev. Donald Coppedge and Rev. Steve Jacks with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Family of Mr. Plyler will receive friends following the service in the Family Life Center and suggest memorial contributions be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church, Building Fund, 1841 N. Rocky River Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.
