LANCASTER, SC – Leon Frederick Mangano, 84, went Home to be with Our Lord on November 30, 2022. He passed peacefully in his home, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on February 11, 1938 in Ridgefield Park, NJ, Leon was the son of Rosario "Fred" and Mary Mangano. He graduated from Syracuse University with a major in Civil Engineering and spent most of his career with the State of New Jersey overseeing the construction of many roads and bridges. He married Catherine Pacinello in 1966 and they had two children, whom he dearly loved. He eventually settled in Lancaster, SC with his son and his family.
A man of faith, Leon loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed crosswords and jigsaw puzzles and was a sports enthusiast. He enjoyed helping his son with farm projects, spending time with his family and sitting out back watching the farm activities.
Leon is survived by his son, Fred (Suzanne); his grandchildren, Matthew (Melissa), Tyler, Nicholas, and Catherine; a great granddaughter, Layla; and a sister, Serena.
Leon was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine; his daughter, Mary; and his parents.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 noon Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Indian Land, SC.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Missionaries of the Poor or to the St. Jude Research Hospital for children, charities both near and dear to his heart.
