LANCASTER, SC:::::::::::Mrs. Laura Marguerite Ormand, age 81, died Thursday, August 25, 2016 at the Bethea Baptist Assisted Living in Darlington, SC. She was born November 10, 1934 in Lee County, NC, a daughter of the late Herdon Dew and Cora Smithwick Dew. Mrs. Ormand retired in 2005 from Springs Industries after 50 years of service. She loved flower gardening and baking, her specialty was her 7-up Pound Cake. Mrs. Ormand was of the Baptist Faith and attended Hyde Park Baptist Church.

Mrs. Ormand is survived by two sons, Joe Roberts Ormand, Jr. and his wife, Marsha, and Jimmy Allen Ormand and his wife, Teresa; a daughter, Joan Ormand Ervin and her husband, Samuel Fulton Ervin, III; two sisters, Phoebe Carnes and her husband, Jack, and Mildred McCain; six grandchildren, Tripp Ormand and his wife, Angie, Keisha Helms and her husband, Brandon, Sam Ervin and his wife, Micca, Gavin Ervin and his wife, Brianna, David Ormand and Mason Ormand; and six great grandchildren.

Mrs. Ormand is preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Bob Dew and Walter Dew, and J.R. Dew; three sisters, Betty Brown, Mary Herdon Dew and Gladys Story and the father of her children, Joe Roberts Ormand, Sr.

The Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Mrs. Ormand will be 2:00 pm Sunday, August 28, 2016 at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home by Rev. Charlie Simpson.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at Burgess Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster and suggest in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Lancaster Childrens Home, PO Box 416, Lancaster, SC 29720 or the American Cancer Society, Lancaster County Relay for Life, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210 or the Bethea Baptist Independent Living, 157 Home Ave., Darlington, SC 29532, or the McLeod Foundation, PO Box 100551, Florence, SC 29502-0551.
