HEATH SPRINGS, SC ::::::::::: Mrs. Katie McManus Hammond, age 94, died Sunday, March 25, 2012 at White Oak Manor where she was a resident. She was born June 7, 1917 in Lancaster County, the daughter of the late John W. McManus and Melissa McManus McManus and was the wife of the late Zelmer Luther Hammond, Sr. Mrs. Hammond retired from Springs Industries and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. Mrs. Hammond is survived by a son, Douglas Hammond and his wife Jo Ann of Heath Springs, a daughter-in-law, Doris McAteer Hammond of Hickory, NC, a brother, Kelly McManus of Lancaster, 3 sisters, Euree Carnes, Frankie Couch, and Azilee Ricks all of Lancaster, 7 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Hammond was preceded in death by 3 sons, Z.L. Hammond, Jr., Steven B. Hammond, and Keith R. Hammond, 7 brothers, Roy McManus, J.W. McManus, David McManus, Toy McManus, Ira McManus, Ray McManus, and Roddy McManus, 4 sisters, Edna Whitaker, Leila Carrol, Inez Carnes and Kathryn Gaskins, and a granddaughter, Sharon Stalls. The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Hammond will be 2:00 pm, Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at Bethlehem Baptist Church by Rev. Jason Myers and Rev. Jerry Branham. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Family of Mrs. Hammond will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at Hartley Funeral Home and the family suggests memorials to Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1841 N. Rocky River Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.
