LANCASTER, SC::::::::::::: Mrs. Kathleen Connolly Gracie, age 84, of 1992 Havenwood Drive, died Saturday, February 21, 2009 at White Oak Manor. She was born October 24, 1924 in Newark, New Jersey, the daughter of the late George S. Connolly and Rose Axt Connolly and was the wife of the late Norman H. Gracie. She was a retired Veteran of World War II having served in the US Navy as a W.A.V.E. and was a 1953 graduate of Seton Hall University graduating- Cum Laude. Mrs. Gracie taught elementary school in New Jersey and also taught for twenty-eight years in Naugatuck, Ct before retiring in 1987. She moved to Lancaster in 2001 and was a volunteer for the Literacy Council. She was a member of the Connecticut Teacher's Association, Prospect Grange, and Secular Franciscan Order in Middletown, Connecticut. She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Prospect from 1959 thru 2001 and was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Rock Hill after moving to Lancaster. Mrs. Gracie is survived by a daughter, Florence Cranney and her husband Robert of Lancaster, 2 sisters, Margaret McCarthy of Chillicothe, IL, Patricia Bishop and her husband Thomas of Kutztown, PA, and one brother, Captain George S. Connolly, Jr. and his wife Beverly of Mechanicsburg, PA; 4 grandchildren, Brian, Andrea, Thomas, and Katie Rose and 23 nieces and nephews and many grand-nieces and nephews.Mrs. Gracie was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Sylvia Connolly and Maryrose Douglas and 2 brother-in-laws, Robert Douglas and Lawrence F. McCarthy.The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Gracie will be held at St. Anthony Church, Prospect, Connecticut with burial to follow at Middlebury Cemetery, Middlebury, Connecticut. The Family of Mrs. Gracie will receive friends at Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home in Prospect, Connecticut and suggests memorial contributions be made to the National Right to Life, 517 Tenth Street, Northwest, Washington DC 20004.
