LANCASTER, SC ~ Mrs. Katherine "Sissy" Brazell Monroe, 87, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at MUSC Chester Nursing Facility.  She was born August 23, 1931 in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Wylie Jesse Brazell and Alice White Brazell and was the wife of the late Bobby Green Monroe.  Mrs. Monroe retired from Springs Industries and following her retirement, was the owner of Tropical Tanning Salon. In her earlier years, she enjoyed spending time at the lake.  She was a very loving mother and grandmother and was a member of Westside Baptist Church.

Mrs. Monroe is survived by her children, Cynthia Sue Hayes (Jerry) of Lexington, Kathie Anne Carnes (Darrell), Janet Lynn Gainey (Rick) of Lancaster, Bobby Dennis Monroe of Hopkinsville, KY and Butch Monroe of Lancaster; a brother, Clyde Brazell (Emily) of Lancaster; a sister, Mary Ann Baker of Lancaster; nine grandchildren, Allison Hayes, April Starbuck, Judd Tripp, Darrell Marshal Carnes, Jr., Bobby Monroe, Blake Monroe, Jeffrey Monroe,  Thomas Monroe, and Jesse Greene Monroe; fourteen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Monroe was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Tommy Brazell and Wylie Jesse Brazell, Jr.; and two sisters, Bernice Vaughn and Faye Vaughn.

The Celebration of Life Graveside Service for Mrs. Monroe will be 11:00 am, Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Lancaster Memorial Park officiated by Rev. Tim Anderson.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Friday evening, July 5, 2019 at Burgess Funeral Home and suggest memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 140 Stoneridge Drive, Suite 210, Columbia, SC  29210.
