Obituary

VAN WYCK, SC:::::::::::Mrs. Julia M. Alexander died March 23, 2015, at Carolinas Medical Center Pineville. She was born August 3, 1922, in Whitmire, S.C., a daughter of the late John and Wilma Miller.

Julia graduated from Queens College in Charlotte, NC, in 1942. She served as president
of the boarding student body and was listed in Who's Who of American Colleges. She remained at Queen's College for three years as secretary to the Dean of Instructions. In 1946 she married Glenn C. Alexander. They were married for sixty years.

She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, and she served for two years as president of the Women in the Church of Palmetto Presbytery. She also served as president of Queen's College Alumnae, and as president of Women's Auxiliary of Land Resources of S.C. Through the Neighbor Club, she was active in the Van Wyck community. She enjoyed music, traveling, chocolate, reading, and anything but cooking!! Throughout life, the joy of the Lord was her strength. Her life's motto was "Live each day to the fullest, to the glory of God."

Julia was preceded in death by her son, John Glenn Alexander in 2002, and by her husband, Glenn Cooper Alexander in 2007, as well as her sister, Mary Ellen Young in 2014.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Kay Alexander, grandchildren, Melissa Alexander-McCarson, John Glenn Alexander II, Gray Alexander and wife Keri, Justin Cassidy and wife Zamira, Chris Cassidy, and wife Kirsten, Donna Noblitt and husband Mike, Dana Green and husband Steve, and Yvon Cassidy, fourteen great grandchildren, twelve great-great grandchildren, brothers and sisters in law, Ruth Ingerson, Nancy Church, Doris Alexander, Ruth Alexander, Ralph Alexander, and his wife Ruby, and a number of very, very special loving and thoughtful nieces and nephews, and also Lena Watson a very special friend and nurse.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 4421 Old Hickory Road, Van Wyck, S.C., at 2:00 pm on Thursday March 26, 2015. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service. Memorials may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 276, Van Wyck, S.C. 29744.
