LANCASTER, SC :::::::::::Mrs. Joyce Crawford Bethea went to Heaven on Sunday, November 10, 2013 to meet God and her Savior Jesus Christ, and to rejoin her daughter, Jan B. Westmoreland; her father, Audis Elmer Crawford, Sr.; her mother, Iva Graves Crawford; her sister, Jean C. Gilbert, and her brother, Audis Elmer Crawford, Jr. Joyce loved her God, her family and her church and served them all well. She loved to bake unusual birthday cakes for her family. She was also a talented seamstress and her daughter and older grandchildren benefited from this. She was involved with starting the Covenant Baptist Senior ministry and served as its first president. Joyce loved the Garden Club, her book club and her bridge club. Most of all, she was always there for her husband and her children. She was much loved and will be missed very much.
Joyce was born in Tchula, Mississippi, on December 28, 1924. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, John Buell "Jack" Bethea, Jr.; her son, John A. Bethea, Sr. and his wife Norma Cauthen Bethea, her son-in-law, William A. Westmoreland, Jr.; and her sister, Lou Crawford Price Osburn of Shreveport, LA. She was also survived by her grandchildren: Audis Bethea, Jr. and his wife Christina, Anna Lauren Fresk and her husband Spencer, Drew Anne Westmoreland, Callen Frances Bethea, and Cayce Crawford Bethea; her great grandchildren, Huntley Olivia Fresk, Lila Noelle Fresk and Audrey Joyce Bethea; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Mrs. Bethea will be 11:00 am Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Covenant Baptist Church by Dr. Bert Welch. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Covenant Baptist Church, Building Fund, PO Box 578, Lancaster, SC 29721 or Hospice of South Carolina, 412 N. White Street, Suite A, Lancaster, SC 29720.
