LANCASTER, SC:::::::Mrs. Josephine Joann Busbee Burt, age 69, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends, Friday, February 19, 2016 at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. She was born December 20, 1946 in Rock Hill, a daughter of the late James Albert Busbee and Sadie Campbell Busbee and was the wife of James Phillip Burt. Mrs. Burt was a graduate of Winthrop University with a Masters Degree in Education. She retired from York Technical College where she was an English Professor and Administrator. She also taught English at Rock Hill High School and Northwestern High School for a total of 34 years in education. She loved teaching, her family and friends, flowers and gardening. She enjoyed spending time at their lake house and her wave runner. She loved her dogs Bella and Annie. Mrs. Burt was a member of Belair United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and was also a Lay speaker.

Mrs. Burt is survived by her husband of 19 years, James Phillip Burt; her children, Brad Rikard, Jason Rikard, Pamela Wentz and her husband, Roger, and Kirk Burt; six grandchildren, Austin Hicks, Bradley Rikard, Jr., Maggie Burt, Hayden Briggs, Sean Rikard and Logan Burt; one sister, Jeanette Busbee Bowling and her husband, Don of Rutherfordton, NC.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Burt will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Belair United Methodist Church by Rev. Harry K. Gindhart, Jr. and Rev. Gayle Summey. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The Family will receive friends following the graveside service in the church social hall and suggest memorial contributions be made to Belair United Methodist Church, 8095 Shelley Mullis Road, Indian Land, SC 29707 or the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.
