INDIAN LAND, SC – John Roger Steckel, age 89, of Indian Land, South Carolina, died November 14, 2025 at his home in Sun City Carolina Lakes. John was the son of Charles and Emma Merkel Steckel.

Born in Allentown, PA, he was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and Mary Immaculate College. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church (Waxhaw Campus).

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his daughter, Christine; his son, Matthew (Sherrie Hyatt); his grandsons, Hudson and Peyton Steckel; his siblings, Vincent Steckel, Agnes Toolan (Jim), Kitty Kovacs (John), Peg Roth (Steve), Regina Hausman (Dave); sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Steckel and Ivette Steckel; and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary and Grace; four brothers, Charlie, Joe, Duke, and Steve; and sisters-in-law, Agnes Gormley Steckel and Joanne Steckel.

A Funeral Mass for John will be celebrated on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 10:45 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 8015 Ballantyne Commons Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28277.
