LANCASTER, SC – Rev. John Gary Rogers went home to be with his Lord on March 3, 2025. Rev. Rogers humbly served Oakhurst Baptist Church for 40 years and he proudly served our country as a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a Pastor for over 50 years and a Chaplain for the Sheriff's Office for nearly 30 years.
Rev. Rogers was a dedicated shepherd to his churches and a devoted husband and father. He was preceded in death by the love of his life Mary "Ann" Harper Rogers; his parents, Bessie and Harry Rogers; his in-laws, Robert and Mary Elizabeth Harper; and two sisters, Betty Altieri and Shirley Brown.
He is survived by a son, Donnie Rogers (Andie); two daughters, Christy Rogers and Wendy Rogers; five grandsons, Karac Bennett, Fallon Bennet, Austin Mahaffee, Avery Mahaffee and Kolton Rogers; and three great grands.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at Oakhurst Baptist Church on Friday, March 7, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. The address for the church is 378 Barrett Road in Heath Springs, SC. The family will receive visitors from 10:00am to 11:00am, one hour before the service in the fellowship building of the church and all other times at the family home – 1160 Baldwin Drive in Lancaster.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to Samaritan's Purse or the church of your choice.
