FORT LAWN, SC ~ Mr. John William Matheson, Jr., age 72, passed away Monday, January 31, 2022, at Lexington Medical Center.  He was born May 27, 1949, in Panama, a son of the late John William Matheson, Sr. and Martha McFadden Matheson. Mr. Matheson received a Bachelor's Degree in Theatre from the North Carolina School of Arts.

John had many talents and hobbies to include woodworking (tikis, furniture pieces, and other unique objects), as well as being on the water where he enjoyed sailing, fishing, and boating.  He enjoyed singing at his church and was a friend to so many. Mr. Matheson also coached soccer in Great Falls.

He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and a former member of El Bethel Methodist Church.

Mr. Matheson is survived by his wife of 42 years, Bonnie Fulmer Matheson; a son, Malcolm Duncan Matheson (Tabitha Ernandez Matheson) of Fort Mill; two daughters, Crisna Moira Matheson Mobley (Brandon Mobley) of Elgin, SC, and Jill Marie Dachis (Jeff Dachis) of Brooklyn, NY; six grandchildren, Ruby, Julian, Hadley, Presley, Darby, and Grady; and two sisters Mary Montgomery and Margaret Edwards.

Mr. Matheson was preceded in death by his parents. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be tremendously missed by his family.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, February 5th, 2022 at 11:30 am at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Fort Lawn, SC, with Rev. Jimmy Jordan officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 11:00 am in the fellowship hall. Burial will follow at El Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery. The family recommends masking. Emmanuel Baptist Church will be streaming the funeral service on their Facebook page for those who are unable make the service.
