LANCASTER, SC ::::::::::Mr. John Marion "Johnny" Ghent, Sr. age 68, died Friday, February 20, 2009 at Springs Memorial Hospital. He was born May 31, 1940 in Lancaster County, the son of the late Carl Harrison Ghent and Roxie Dunlap Ghent and was the husband of the late Barbara Adams Ghent. Mr. Ghent was previously employed with Duke Power and Fluor Daniel and most recently as a self-employed brick mason. He served our great country in the United States National Guard, was of the Baptist faith and attended New Cut Presbyterian Church.Mr. Ghent is survived by a son, John Marion "Butch" Ghent, Jr. and his wife Elaine, 2 daughters, Betsy Ghent Steen and her husband Howard, and Pam Ghent Dover and her husband Bo all of Lancaster, 7 sisters, Betty Adams and her husband Jack, Mary Clemmer, Joanne Hartley and her husband Jerry, Marty Burgess and her husband Mike, Evelyn Finch, and Barbara Barrett all of Lancaster, Pat Barton and her husband Richard of Simpsonville, and 5 grandchildren, Tabitha Ghent Reynolds, Johnathan Ghent, Tim Steen, Brandy Steen Boone and Matthew Dover, 4 great grandchildren, Madison Reynolds, Austin Ghent, Hannah Steen, and Madaline Dickson, and his special friend, Pearl McSwain of Denver, NC.Mr. Ghent was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Carlton Ghent.The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Ghent will be 3:00 pm Sunday afternoon, February 22, 2009 at Hartley Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Wayne Dickson and Rev. Harry Caldwell with entombment to follow at Lancaster Memorial Park Mausoleum. The Family of Mr. Ghent will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 pm Saturday evening, February 21, 2009 at Hartley Funeral Home and suggest memorial contributions be made to New Cut Presbyterian Church, 2617 New Cut Church Road, Lancaster, SC 29720 or Catawba Baptist Church, 1144 Riverside Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.The Family will be at the home of his daughter, Betsy Steen, 3305 University Drive, Lancaster SC 29720.
