LANCASTER, SC:::::::::::Mr. Joe Wylie Neely, age 86, died Sunday, December 7, 2014 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. He was born March 8, 1928 in Lancaster County, the son of the late Brown Churchill "B.C." Neely and Alma Ratterree Neely and was the husband of the late Nancye Gardner Neely. Mr. Neely retired from Springs Foundry & Machine Shop and also worked for Circle Bearing Company. He was a devoted Gamecock and Atlanta Braves fan and a Mason with Jackson Masonic Lodge. He was a member of Second Baptist Church of Lancaster and served as a leader in many capacities. He also served our country in the United States Navy but his greatest passion was spending time with his grandchildren.
Mr. Neely is survived by two sons, Philip Wylie Neely and his wife Karen Frowein Neely and Tony Lynn Neely and his wife Karen Threatt Neely both of Lancaster, two sisters, Pat Neely Thompson and her husband Charles "Sparky' of Lancaster and Doris Neely Cauthen of Fayetteville, NC, a granddaughter, Meredith Neely Kirk and her husband David, 5 great grandchildren, Bryce Phillips, Brady Kirk, Kenley Kirk, Reece Kirk and Sam Kirk, and 5 honorary grandchildren, Lindsay Stepp Hough, Jamie Stepp, Austin Hough, Zane Hough and Turner Hough.
Mr. Neely was preceded in death by a brother, William C. "Billy" Neely of Norfolk, VA.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Neely will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at Second Baptist Church by Dr. Brian Saxon and Rev. Larry Helm. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.
The Family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 pm Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Burgess Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster, SC and in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Second Baptist Church Building Fund, 1426 Great Falls Highway, Lancaster, SC 29720.
