LANCASTER, SC ~ Mr. Joe Harris Lucas, age 84, went home to be with Jesus Monday, July 5, 2021. He was born May 5, 1937 in Lancaster, the son of Jess and Vera Dority Lucas and was the husband of Lois Smith Lucas. Mr. Lucas worked for Springs Mills for over 30 years.  He also worked part-time at McDonald's and Bilo.  Mr. Lucas was a faithful member of Sherwood Baptist Church.  He taught the middle-aged men's class.  He loved his family, his church family, friends, and most of all, the Lord Jesus Christ.  He never met a stranger and he loved to talk.

Mr. Lucas is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lois; three children, David Lucas of Jacksonville, FL, Steven Lucas of the home and Sheila Lucas Boiter (Tim) of Spartanburg; three grandchildren, Ashley Marie Fuller (Cullen), John Michael Kennington, and Joey Lucas; three stepchildren and numerous step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Lou Lucas Williams.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Lucas will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at Sherwood Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Rusty McAlister and Rev. Bryant Fersner. Entombment will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends one hour before the service, from 1:00 – 2:00 pm, in the church sanctuary and suggest memorial contributions be made to Sherwood Baptist Church, PO Box 813, Lancaster, SC 29721.
