Indian Land, SC~ Joseph "Joe" Jordan Brooks, 76, of Indian Land, SC, husband of Babetta "Babs" Meade Brooks, died Saturday, October 23, 2021 with his family by his side.
Joe was born in Louisville, KY. He was the son of the late Ernest Cecil Brooks and Hazel Paulette Brooks and brother of James Brooks (Vanita Brooks and family) of Louisville, KY and Richard Brooks (Marcella Brooks and family) of Louisville, KY.
Joe met his wife, Babs, at Southern High School in Okolona, KY. After graduating from the University of Louisville in 1967, Joe earned his doctorate in Chemistry from the University of Illinois. He served in the US Air Force and was stationed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH. Joe was a chemist with Monsanto Research Corporation and lived in Centerville, OH, where the family was actively involved at Far Hills Baptist Church. In 1984 Joe and his family moved to St. Louis, MO where he finished a distinguished career within the Monsanto Research Group.
In 1995, Joe retired from Monsanto and accepted the position of Church Administrator at West County Community Church in Wildwood, MO. In addition to being a founding member and Elder at West County Community Church, Joe became the first Headmaster of Living Water Academy. In 2013, after a diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease, Joe and Babs moved to Waxhaw, NC to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren. The Brooks are members of Carmel Baptist Church in Matthews, NC.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters. His eldest daughter, Jill Brooks Lenning and her husband Stuart Lenning live in Simpsonville, SC with their four children, Grace Lenning, Emily Lenning, Gunnar Lenning, and Major Lenning. His youngest daughter, Corrie Brooks Carr and her husband James Carr live in Waxhaw, NC with their two children, Kendall Carr and Kaylee Carr.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorials be made to the Parkinson Association of the Carolinas at 2101 Sardis Rd N STE 102A, Charlotte NC 28227.
