LANCASTER, SC – Mr. Freddie Joseph “Joe” Black, age 79, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at his home. He was born on June 2, 1947, in Batesburg, SC and was the son of the late Eugene Fuller Black and the late Roza Lee Sheppherd Black and was the beloved husband of Ruth “Tina” Ernestine Sims Black.
Mr. Black had a deep passion for caring for his saltwater aquariums and spent countless hours tending to and enjoying them. He cherished his family above all else and loved them dearly. Known for his kind heart, strong character, and genuine nature, he was a great man whose friendship and presence enriched the lives of those fortunate enough to know him.
In his younger years, Mr. Black enjoyed golfing, racing Corvettes with his Touch of Glass Corvette Club, coaching softball, and loved deep-sea fishing. He found joy in life's simple pleasures and created many treasured memories with family and friends throughout the years. His legacy of love, dedication, and kindness will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Mr. Black is survived by his wife, Tina Black; his two daughters, Scarlett Rhodes (Larry), and Tara Masters (Eric); his four grandchildren, Forrest McMinn, Dalton Rhodes, Ryan McMinn, and London Rhodes; his great-grandson, Wylder Rhodes; and many other special family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Roza Lee Black; and his sister, Judy Black.
The Celebration of Graveside Service for Mr. Black will be at 11:00 am on Friday, July 10, 2026, at Belair Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Neal Woods. The family will receive friends one hour before the graveside service from 10:00 am – 11:00 am in the church sanctuary.
