Joan
Hinson
February 6, 1937 – August 13, 2021
LANCASTER SC ~ Mrs. Joan Louise Helms Hinson passed away August 13, 2021 at MUSC Lancaster.
Joan was born February 6th 1937 in Charlotte NC, to Lillie Mae Helms Hinson and William Reece Helms. Joan's childhood years were spent growing up in Charlotte with her twin sister Janet. The family relocated to Lancaster in her early teen years when her father's job transferred them from Charlotte with the Lance Co. Joan was a 1955 graduate of Lancaster High School and attended Winthrop College. Prior to her illness Joan was an active member of Glenwood Heights Baptist Church where she served in the choir, WMU, many summer Bible schools, and in several committee capacities. Joan was a past Worthy Matron of the Lancaster SC Eastern Star Chapter 146.
Joan's treasures were her family, particularly, her grandchildren. She approached every day with a strong faith, eternal optimism, grace and encouragement for her family and others. She enjoyed time with family and friends, spending time at the beach and lake over the years. She also enjoyed gardening or "Yard Work" as she referred to it, antiques, and anything Charleston.
Joan led a life of faithful dedication to her Lord, her family, her church, and community. She was predeceased by her husband James M. Hinson Jr., her parents William Reece Helms, and Lillie Mae Helms. She is survived by her twin sister Janet Stanley and niece Joan S. Gault (John) of Sumter, two sons Jim (Carol) of Mooresville NC, Alex (Tina) of Lancaster, and three granddaughters, Jillian Hinson (Cameron) of Raleigh NC, Jennifer Hinson of Wilmington NC, Megan Henderson (Josh) of Lancaster, and three great grandchildren.
The family is grateful to the staffs of Morningside Assisted Living, the Lancaster Health and Rehabilitation Center, Kindred Home Health, and MUSC Lancaster for the care and compassion they provided.
