LANCASTER, SC ~ Mrs. Jewel Tolbert McAteer, age 85, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2021. She was born March 6, 1935 in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Roy Tolbert and Mary Crenshaw Tolbert and was the wife of the late Robert Lee McAteer.  Mrs. McAteer was employed with the SC Commission for the Blind and worked until she turned 80. She taught herself to play the organ and enjoyed playing for her friends and family.  She was a clock collector and decorating for Christmas was a great joy. Mrs. McAteer was a member of Zion United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her son, Rickey McAteer and his wife, Sandy of Mt. Pleasant; two grandchildren, Jennifer Blackmon (Samuel) and Alison Williams (Chris), two great grandchildren, Landon and Tanner Blackmon; and a sister, Frances Faile of West Columbia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert and a brother, Keith Tolbert.

The Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. McAteer will be 11:00 am Saturday, January 23, 2021 at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Michael Jarrell. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion United Methodist Church, 1665 Zion Road, Lancaster, SC  29720.
