LANCASTER, SC – Jessie Ray Short was born on July 14, 1931, in Ruby, South Carolina to parents, Loney Steen Short and Lester Bart Short. He was one of 8 siblings. He went to his heavenly home on February 19, 2025, at the age of 93.

He retired from a long and fruitful career as a mechanical engineer at Springs Bleachery. Jessie Ray Short served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. He was also a dedicated Shriners member.

In 1960, he married Estelle Woodward Short in Lancaster, South Carolina and they raised two wonderful daughters, Debbie Stacks and Rhonda McCain. Jessie is survived by his daughter, Debbie S. Stacks (Dennis); his grandchildren: William "Bo" Stacks (Kim), Michael Green, Daniel McCain, and Heather McCain; his great grandchildren: Madison Green, Marisa Green, Kristen Wallace (Kolton), Kaleb Stacks, Willow McCain, Asher McCain, and Aspyn McCain.

Jessie was a devoted member of Hyde Park Baptist Church. He loved his Lord and Savior, his church, spending time with his friends and family, soaking up the sunshine, red roses and sunflowers, and coconut cake.

The service to celebrate Jessie's life will be held Sunday, February 23, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Burgess Funeral Home (1800 Charlotte Hwy, Lancaster, SC). Visitation will be held prior to the service at 2:00 PM.
