LANCASTER, SC ::::::::::: Mrs. Jessie Byrd Baker, age 88, died March 27, 2011 at White Oak Manor - Rock Hill. She was born August 3, 1922 in Lancaster County, the daughter of the late Robert Ward Byrd and Sally Catoe Byrd and was the wife of the late Ferris A. Baker. Mrs. Baker retired from Springs Industries and was a member of Second Baptist Church. Mrs. Baker is survived by 2 sons, Douglas "Doug" Baker and his wife Dianne of Lancaster, Wayne Baker and his wife Jerri of Lake Wylie, 2 brothers, J.D. Byrd of Lexington, and Merley Byrd of Jefferson, 5 sisters, Lucille Blackwell of Flat Creek, Ruth Laney Byrd of Columbia, Frankie Eubanks of Kershaw, Sue Bouza of Omaha, NE, and Katherine Vinson of Camden, 4 grandchildren; Brent Baker, Mendy Hinson, Michael Baker, and Shane Baker, 7 great grandchildren; Kaitlyn, Karlie, and Kensley Hinson, Peyton Baker, Brandon Baker, McKenna Baker and Bryson Baker. Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by a sister, Julia Threatt.The Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Mrs. Baker will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at The Chapel of Hartley Funeral Home by Dr. Brian Saxon and Rev. Larry Helm. Burial was private. The Family of Mrs. Baker will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 pm, Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Hartley Funeral Home and suggests memorials may be made to Second Baptist Church, 1426 Great Falls Highway, Lancaster SC 29720.
