LANCASTER, SC – Mrs. Janie Ragsdale Stogner Courtney, age 94, passed away April 15, 2026. She was born June 16, 1931 in Pageland, Chesterfield County, SC, a daughter of the late John Frank Ragsdale and the late Glennie Pigg Ragsdale. Mrs. Courtney was a devoted member of Camp Creek Baptist Church, where she dearly loved her church family and her pastor. She found great joy in traveling and visiting new places, always ready to go at a moment’s notice—just tell her “when.” She also had a love for planting flowers, finding happiness in watching them grow and bloom.

Above all, Mrs. Courtney cherished her family. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and her family was truly the center of her world. She was employed with Springs Industries and later at the Buford Elementary School cafeteria, where she became a familiar and beloved face to many children who will fondly remember her.

Mrs. Courtney had a lighthearted spirit and a wonderful sense of humor. She loved deeply and had a special way of making everyone around her feel cared for and valued.

Mrs. Courtney is lovingly survived by her three sons, Ricky Stogner (Cathy), Marty Stogner (Carol), and Randy Stogner; as well as her honorary son—whom she fondly referred to as her “fourth son,” Rev. Randy Mellichamp. She also leaves behind a cherished legacy in her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Marion Stogner, and later by her second husband, Simeon “Sim” Courtney, both of whom she loved dearly; along with her brothers, William Ragsdale, Archie Ragsdale, and Jimmy Ragsdale, and her sisters, Mary Catherine Knight and Addie McNeely.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Courtney will be 2:30 pm Sunday, April 19, 2026, at Camp Creek Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Randy Mellichamp. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m., one hour prior to the service, in the Sanctuary at Camp Creek Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Camp Creek Baptist Church, 998 Potter Rd, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Mrs. Courtney’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation to her special niece, Teresa Cabe, for the many hours she spent by her side, providing loving care.
